On New Year's Eve, Sochi residents continue bringing flowers to memorial to victims of Tu-154 crash
On the New Year's Eve, no festive events take place in the streets of Sochi, and many citizens chose to come to the memorial to the victims of the Tu-154 crash. The search for the bodies of the victims is still underway in the Black Sea area.
The plane of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) with 92 passengers on board crashed in Sochi, which airport it left after refuelling. Resident of Sochi arranged a memorial of flowers and candles to the victims on the edge of the sea pier. The festivities on the square in front of the Sochi Mayor's Office were cancelled.
On the New Year's Eve, people walk along the seaside promenade and continue to visit the memorial to the victims of the crash. The people are carrying flowers and candles.
Residents of Sochi interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent supported the decision of the Mayor's Office to cancel the New Year's outdoor festivities.
Despite the holidays, the round-the-clock search for the bodies in the Black Sea is underway. According to a staff member of the "Kuban Rescue Team", rescuers do not find whole bodies, but only fragments.
At present, it is planned to continue the search activities until January 9.
