South Ossetia: MIA calls on people to surrender their weapons

The authorities of South Ossetia gave local residents three months for the voluntary surrender of illegally held weapons or its registration. After November 15, law enforcers will carry out raids to seize weapons and bring owners of weapons to criminal liability. This was reported by a spokesman of the South-Ossetian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that earlier, the Security Council of South Ossetia has announced its intention to consider the MIA's proposal to adopt a law on part-time servicemen to enable them to register the weapons stored by them and hold the weapons legally. However, the residents of South Ossetia treated the idea of legalization of weapons as unpromising.

According to a spokesman of the South-Ossetian MIA, the decree on the deadline for surrender of weapons was signed by Akhsar Lavoev, Minister of the South-Ossetian MIA.

The MIA's spokesman has also emphasized that earlier, the South-Ossetian MIA has repeatedly appealed to the people with a request for voluntary surrender of weapons or their legal registration.
