Residents of South Ossetia treat idea of legalization of weapons as unattractive
The Security Council of South Ossetia intends to consider a proposal initiated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) to adopt a law on reservists giving them the right to register the weapons stored by them and hold those weapons legally.
This instruction was given to the Security Council of South Ossetia by Leonid Tibilov, the "Sputnik-South Ossetia" reports on June 15.
Today, the local residents interviewed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent have stated that the MIA's initiative will not result in mass registration of weapons.
According to Alan Djioev, a member of the Union of South Ossetia combatants, none of the residents will bring their weapons voluntarily.
"Firstly, even if they adopt a law no one will trust it. No law does have complete force at our place. Laws can be changed not in favour of combatants, and thus people do not trust them. Secondly, men are still affected by the 'Vietnam syndrome', that is, people do not come out of a state of war, in spite of the peace established. Some quarrels are often solved through the use of weapons. If you get weapon, then you are strong. If you've got no weapons, then you cannot defend yourself," Alan Djioev has told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent today.
