A North Caucasus district court martial has acquitted four commandos of the reconnaissance unit in the Russian armed forces' General Staff, citing lack of evidence.

A place of temporary disposition of an interior unit was shelled by rebels from underbarrel grenade-launchers and fired from automatic weapons.

The overwhelming majority of people in the republic are convinced that only a candidate having the support of the Kremlin can become head the Chechen Republic.

Earlier Husein Dzhabrailov held the post of Minister for Nationalities, Information and Foreign Relations in the Chechen government.

Muslim Khadzhiev, a young man, was reportedly detained during these actions and taken in an unknown direction.

Ali Yusupov, a local resident, was detained by officers of security agencies at a post in the Naursky district of Chechnya.
