Complaint to ECtHR on Cherkesov's sentence to be sent not earlier than March, his lawyer says
The defence of Aslan Cherkesov, a native of Nalchik, convicted for killing Yegor Sviridov, is getting ready to continue the litigation at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), said Dmitry Pankov, Cherkesov's advocate. According to his story, the complaint will be filed no earlier than March, after receipt of the cassation decision of the Russian Supreme Court (SC). On the other hand, Roman Kuchin, who is representing the victims, finds the SC's decision lawful and justified.
Motorists who got into road accidents because of ice may sue road companies, lawyer from Stavropol says
Over the last few days, several major road accidents caused by icy roads happened on motorways of the Stavropol Territory. According to Sergey Stepanidenko, a lawyer from the organization in defence of motorists' rights, the drivers who suffered in road accidents due to icy road conditions, may lodged civil claims against the road companies- defendants in civil cases, as they are responsible for keeping roads in good condition.
Russia is again in the lead by number of complaints lodged to ECtHR
On January 26, Nicolas Bratza, Chairman of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in Strasbourg, said at a press conference that Russia is leading by the number of complaints submitted to the Court. According to his story, by December 31, 2011, the ECtHR had registered 40,250 complaints against Russia, which is 26.6 percent of total complaints received. A significant part of decisions on them has to do with the cases of residents of Northern Caucasus.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations: over 200 residents of Krasnodar district cut off electricity
This morning the city of Novorossiysk, several neighbouring settlements, Anapa and 7 rural settlements in the district were cut of power because of wire breakage caused by strong wind gusts. All in all over 212 thousand people and tens socially-significant objects are currently without power supply, officials of Southern regional center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported.
Ecologists express concern about plans of Krasnodar authorities to close natural reserve "Bolshoy Utrish"
Department of Natural Resources and State Ecological Control of the Krasnodar Territory has announced a contest to prepare the materials for the closure of the state natural reserve "Bolshoy Utrish". Ecologists are concerned about plans to close the natural reserve, and they believe that the authorities intend to deprive of the protection status the most valuable parts of the Mediterranean forests, located on the Black Sea coast between the cities of Anapa and Novorossiysk.
