The European Court of Human Rights granted the claim of an Azerbaijani journalist who got injured during dispersal of an oppositional action in 2005
On October, 2, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) announced its verdict on the claim of Azerbaijani journalist Ramiz Najafli. Acknowledging violations of Najafli's rights secured by clauses 3 and 10 of European Convention on Human Rights (prohibition of inhuman or degrading treatment, freedom of expression) the Court obliged the Government of Azerbaijan to pay the journalist a compensation to a total sun of 13 thousand euros.
In Eastern Georgia, 10-month-old baby perished
In the village of Kolaga of the Gurjaani District of Kakheti, a 10-month-old girl perished. The girl's parents said that they associated the incident with the political activity of their relative, an activist of the coalition "Georgian Dream", who, according to them, had been repeatedly threatened by activists of the "United National Movement" Party. The ruling party denied the accusations. The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) called on not to use the incident for political purposes.
Anatoly Kondratenko, ex-Mayor of Novocherkassk, claims having written letter of resignation under threats
Yesterday, on September 30, Anatoly Kondratenko, ex-Mayor of the city of Novocherkassk of the Rostov Region, released the statement that his resignation was connected with threats, received by him. The City Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) believes that the ex-Mayor has a chance to be nominated as a candidate in the upcoming mayoral election.
