Relatives of convicted natives of Northern Caucasus report about hunger strike at IK-7 in Mordovia
At the Penal Colony No. 7 (known as IK-7) of the Department for the Republic of Mordovia of the Russian Federal Correction Service (FSIN), a group of prisoners, most of them being natives from Northern Caucasus, went on a hunger strike to protest against their custody conditions, as well as they way they are treated by the colony personnel, relatives of the prisoners report. HRW: situation surrounding construction of TPP in Kudepsta demands intervention of IOC and Russian authorities
The Human Rights Watch (HRW) has expressed concern about the escalation of the conflict between residents of the settlement of Kudepsta and developers of the Olympic site - a thermal power plant (TPP). Russian authorities and the organizers of the Olympic Games should take steps to resolve the conflict and prevent acts of aggression applied by employees of private security agencies (known as ChOPs) to local residents, says the statement released by the HRW.
HRC "Memorial" will appeal against the demand of the MPO to get registered as foreign agent
The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" has received from the Moscow Prosecutor's Office (MPO) a presentation saying that the HRC is acting as a foreign agent without being registered as such at the authorized body and demanding to eliminate - within a month - the violation of federal law. The leaders of the HRC "Memorial" believe that conclusions of the MPO are wrong and plan to appeal against them.
Georgian law enforcers claim having no information about Magomed Magomedov, missing native of Dagestan
In Georgia, representatives of the Chief Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) state that they do not have any information on the whereabouts of Magomed Magomedov, a native of Dagestan, who disappeared in Tbilisi. It is known that Magomed Magomedov himself was sentenced in Georgia to two years of imprisonment for illegal crossing of the border; however, in January 2013, he was amnestied, and he asked the Georgian authorities for a political asylum.
