The Ministry of Natural Resources of Dagestan has mandated the village head to eliminate the illegal dump.

The head of Khamamatyurt in the Babayurt district of Dagestan has been tasked with cleaning up the southwestern outskirts of the village, where inspectors discovered a large illegal dump.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", residents of various settlements in Dagestan regularly complain about illegal dumps and the associated deterioration of the environmental situation. For instance, in August, residents of the Kaytagsky district complained that a fire from an illegal dump spread to a wheat field, and the firefighters and local residents lacked the resources to deal with the blaze, while the authorities did not respond to requests for help. In October, social media users wrote that smoke from the burning dump near Makhachkala was spreading to the city and neighboring villages, whose residents suffered from the acrid smell: in particular, residents of Talgi, Stary Agachul, and Khushet were affected by the smoke.

Inspectors from the State Environmental Supervision Service, which is subordinate to the Ministry of Natural Resources of Dagestan, discovered an unauthorized dump on the territory of the village of Khamamatyurt in the Babayurt district of the republic.

Officials found information about the illegal dump on social media. An inspection revealed that the illegal dump occupies 20,000 square meters on the southwestern outskirts of the village, reported RIA "Dagestan".

During the inspection, it became clear that this was not the only violation of waste management in Khamamatyurt. "Another site, where a pit for waste storage has been dug, was found near the village cemetery," the agency noted.

Inspectors took photos and videos of the dumps to send the materials to the district police department. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has been tasked with identifying those responsible and holding them administratively accountable. Additionally, the materials along with a warning have been sent to the head of the Khamamatyurt administration: he has been instructed to rectify the violations by organizing the cleanup of the area from waste.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that the dump near Makhachkala was recognized as illegal by the court; however, the Rosselkhoznadzor stated in September 2022 that it had expanded. The agency ordered the authorities to eliminate the illegally dumped waste. On June 25, 2023, the mayor of Makhachkala, Yusup Umavov, promised that the territory of the landfill near Makhachkala, which the court had previously recognized as illegal, would be fenced off with an electric fence equipped with video cameras.
