The Armenian opposition announced its consolidation

The largest opposition parties of Armenia announced their efforts to unite against the policy of territorial concessions, to protect the church and democracy. The joint statement was issued against the backdrop of the detention of the leader of "Strong Armenia" Samvel Karapetyan.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", law enforcement officers delivered the leader of the opposition "Strong Armenia" Samvel Karapetyan and his associate, parliamentarian Narek Karapetyan, to investigators after searches. Searches were conducted at 65 addresses in a case of abuse of power, theft, and money laundering. According to the investigation, from 2016 to 2024, Samvel Karapetyan organized the activities of a group of individuals allegedly involved in committing a number of crimes related to the activities of the Closed Joint Stock Company "Electric Networks of Armenia". Karapetyan denied the charges.

The opposition political forces of Armenia declared a nationwide consolidation.

In a statement adopted following a meeting of the parties at the home of the leader of the "Strong Armenia" bloc, Samvel Karapetyan, the parties noted that despite their disagreements, they recognize the seriousness of the fateful challenges facing the Armenian people and statehood.

The goals of the initiative stated in the statement include the inadmissibility of adopting the "Aliyev Constitution", achieving peace without unilateral concessions and territorial losses, protecting national identity and the Armenian Apostolic Church, and restoring democratic freedoms and rights.

"The undersigned political forces agree to unite their efforts to create an atmosphere of public unity around priority national tasks and to counter the challenges facing our country. We call on all political forces, public and state figures to join this national unification," the statement quotes Yerevan.Today.

The statement was signed by the blocs "Strong Armenia" and "Armenia", the parties "Country for Life", "Prosperous Armenia", "Dashnaktsutyun", the Republican Party of Armenia, the Armenian National Congress, "Heritage", "Together", "Democratic Alternative", "New Era", and "United Armenians".

Representative of Strong Armenia Narek Karapetyan stated that all means permitted by the Constitution can be used. He also mentioned that the next step would be to continue negotiations with public figures and reach a consensus with them. According to him, people whose opinions matter to society should join this work, writes News.Am.

The most pro-Russian forces in the Armenian parliamentary elections were "Strong Armenia", "Armenia" of Robert Kocharyan, and "Prosperous Armenia" of Gagik Tsarukyan. The Kremlin bet on Karapetyan, Armenian political scientists noted. "Caucasian Knot" has prepared a reference "Elections 2026 in the National Assembly (Parliament) of Armenia".
