The case of the tourist's death at the resort has reached the court in Dagestan.

An entrepreneur managing guest houses in Dagestan will stand trial in connection with the death of one of the guests: a tourist fell off a cliff on the territory of the resort.

The Gunib inter-district investigative department has completed the investigation of the criminal case against the owner of the guest houses. He is accused of providing unsafe services that led to the accidental death of a person . This article provides for up to six years of imprisonment.

According to the investigation, the accused rented out guest houses near the village of Chalda in the Gergebil district. At the same time, the area near the houses, which were located next to a cliff over three meters high, was not equipped with protective barriers and necessary lighting, the Investigative Committee of Dagestan reported today on its Telegram channel.

Social media users pointed out the unresolved issue of tourist safety in Dagestan. In particular, the dangerous manner of operating boats and the lack of life jackets pose a threat to tourists in the Sulak Canyon, users noted. Commentators shared their own negative experiences of such trips and demanded increased control over tourist safety.

One of the tourists fell off the cliff due to insufficient lighting and the absence of barriers. The man died from his injuries.

"The investigation has gathered sufficient evidence. The criminal case has been sent to the prosecutor for approval of the indictment and subsequent referral to the court," the agency's message states.

According to the investigation, the threat to the lives of guests existed for significantly longer than one tourist season: at least since 2023, the owner of the properties systematically rented out the houses without ensuring either barriers along the dangerous edge of the slope or basic outdoor lighting of the adjacent area, "Kommersant" previously reported.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that after colliding with a rock, a boat with tourists sank in the Sulak Canyon. One passenger, a 60-year-old tourist from Izhevsk, died, and eight other passengers required medical assistance. On August 13, it became known that the driver of the boat and the organizer of the transportation were detained. On August 14, a court in Makhachkala arrested those accused of the tourist's death.
