The FSB reported the prevention of terrorist acts in southern Russia.
In the Volgograd region and other areas, FPV goggles for controlling drones with explosives hidden inside, intended for Russian servicemen under the guise of humanitarian aid, were seized, reported the FSB.
According to the FSB, Ukrainian special services attempted to deliver booby-trapped FPV goggles for controlling drones to Russian servicemen. The devices were supposed to reach the military operation zone in Ukraine through volunteers under the guise of humanitarian aid.
"A series of sabotage-terrorist acts planned by Ukrainian special services using homemade explosive devices embedded in FPV goggles for controlling drones, which were supposed to be delivered to the zone of the special military operation to Russian servicemen under the guise of humanitarian aid, has been prevented," the FSB's public relations center reported today, according to "Interfax".
In the Volgograd region, a serviceman received two such goggles from a volunteer and contacted the FSB for verification. According to the agency, bomb technicians discovered through X-ray that instead of cooling fans, explosives were installed in the devices. During subsequent checks in other regions, a batch of similar devices sent via "Russian Post" was seized.
Senders from anonymous accounts contacted representatives of Russian humanitarian organizations and charitable foundations. They did not disclose personal data, phone numbers, or places of work, but demanded video recordings with words of gratitude from Russian military personnel, the FSB claims.
Volunteers were supposed to hand over the goggles to drone operators participating in combat operations. "The detonation of the explosive devices was supposed to occur when the FPV goggles were turned on and would have led to the deaths of servicemen," the message states.
The investigative department of the FSB in the Volgograd region has initiated a criminal case regarding the preparation of a terrorist act and illegal trafficking of explosives.
"Caucasian Knot" also reported that security forces regularly report on the prevention of attacks on military personnel and military facilities in southern Russia. Thus, on October 21, it became known about the detention of a resident of the Krasnodar region, whom the FSB suspected of preparing an explosion at a Ministry of Defense facility on behalf of the Ukrainian side.
On July 9, the FSB reported the arrest of two individuals detained in the Krasnodar region and Moscow on suspicion of preparing attacks on Russian servicemen. According to the agency, one of the officers was to be attacked with a drone carrying explosives near the entrance of his home.
