In South Ossetia, a citizen of Georgia, Gela Berianidze, was detained for crossing the border. The next day he was expelled to Georgia.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", law enforcement officers in South Ossetia regularly detain residents of Georgia on charges of border violations. On October 9, a court fined two residents of Georgia, Giorgi Zhuzhniashvili and Dito Muradashvili, who crossed the border of the republic. They will be expelled to the territory of Georgia.

On October 31, border guards of South Ossetia detained a citizen of Georgia, Gela Berianidze, born in 1985, a resident of the village of Bershueti in the Gori municipality, the state information agency "Res" reported on November 1, citing the press service of the KGB of the republic.

According to the agency, Berianidze crossed the border unintentionally in the vicinity of the village of Amdzarin in the Leninogorsk district. On November 1, he was expelled from the republic.

The State Security Service of Georgia also reported on the detention and release of Berianidze, according to which the citizen is "free and is on the territory controlled by the central authorities," writes "Georgia Online".

It is also noted that tools were used in the process of release, including a "hotline" managed by the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia.

Recall that in 2018, the Ministry of Justice of Georgia submitted a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights "Georgia v. Russian Federation", which concerns the persecution of ethnic Georgians in the territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, violations of the rights of residents of border villages, and borderization. On April 9, 2024, the ECHR ruled that the Russian authorities violated the rights of Georgian citizens by establishing the line of demarcation. This ECHR decision has political significance, but its practical implementation is only possible in the distant future, Georgian analysts indicated.

Restrictions on crossing the line of demarcation with Abkhazia and South Ossetia violate the rights of residents of border villages, who cannot engage in farming and risk being detained, according to a report by an international human rights organization ("Caucasian Knot" can provide the name of the organization upon request) "Behind Barbed Wire. Human Rights Violations as a Result of "Borderization" in Georgia", published on "Caucasian Knot".
