The animal rights activists' rally preceded protests by supporters of Georgia's Eurointegration.
On the 704th day of protests in Tbilisi, those gathered at the Georgian parliament called for a rally on the two-year anniversary of the protests. Prior to this, animal rights activists gathered at the presidential administration, demanding punishment for those responsible for the killing of stray animals.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", participants of the march in Tbilisi on the 703rd day of daily protests protested against the policy of the "Georgian Dream", marching through the city center under the slogan: "Georgia against Ivanishvili".
On the 704th day of continuous protest, citizens gathered again near the parliament and the Tbilisi City Council building, writes Publika.
Those gathered at the parliament building read an address to the people of Georgia regarding the rally scheduled for November 28.
"Two years ago, on November 28, we, the citizens of Georgia, took to the streets because Georgia's European future, its independence, and freedom were under threat. November 28 marks two years of resistance. Tens of thousands of people who fought and continue to fight tirelessly have been beaten, tortured, fined, arrested, fired from their jobs for defending the constitution, and expelled from the country... But they could not break us," the address states.
The participants of the rally noted that the fight must continue until victory. "On November 28, we gather and unite all of Georgia: Akhaltsikhe, Batumi, Gori, Zugdidi, Telavi, Kutaisi <...> We will not abandon each other and Georgia. Until the end – until victory!" the address states.
According to photos published by photographer Giorgi Mosiashvili, those gathered at the parliament building held flags of Georgia and the European Union, as well as slogans. Many sat on the parapet or steps of the parliament.
Representatives of animal protection organizations held a rally this evening at the Government Administration.
Georgian activists called on the prosecutor's office to investigate the circumstances of the death and burial of dogs on the outskirts of Tbilisi and to compare them with reports from owners about missing animals.
The participants of the rally demand to stop possible inhumane treatment of stray dogs and punish the alleged offenders.
If there is no appropriate response from the authorities regarding what happened, the protest will also take place on November 8.
"Unfortunately, what we have been saying here at rallies for several months has been confirmed: representatives of the Ivanishvili regime continue the mass slaughter of stray dogs instead of conducting their sterilization and vaccination and thus trying to reduce their numbers. I hope that society will finally activate, because if we are not many, naturally, they will not stop. As for the investigation, I have no hopes for it. I demand the arrest of the head of the monitoring service. If nothing changes, we will gather at the same time next week," said Lasha Chkhartishvili.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has launched an investigation in connection with the circulated video footage of animal burials. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the investigation has been initiated under Article 259 of the Criminal Code, which provides for liability for animal cruelty, mistreatment, or other forms of violence.
