In the appellate ruling, the prosecutor requested to tighten the sentence of former Sochi mayor Alexey Kopaygorodsky from 15 to 21 years of imprisonment, and his wife Yanina from nine to 16 years.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", in early October, the court sentenced former Sochi mayor Alexey Kopaygorodsky to 15 years of imprisonment, and his wife Yanina to nine years of imprisonment, finding them guilty of embezzlement of land plots and receiving bribes.
The prosecutor's office submitted a petition to the appellate court demanding to tighten the sentence of former Sochi mayor Alexey Kopaygorodsky and his wife Yanina, writes "Kommersant" on October 31, citing the lawyer of the former mayor's wife, Elizabeth Metkina.
The agency requested the appellate court to increase Kopaygorodsky's sentence from 15 to 21 years of imprisonment, and Kopaygorodskaya's from nine to 16 years. According to Metkina, the petition mentions the "audacity of the crimes committed by Yanina Kopaygorodskaya, a sense of impunity, and disregard for the law", as well as references her "behavior after the measure of restraint in the form of house arrest was imposed on her, namely threats in the most unpleasant forms against witnesses and open attempts to bribe them".
The agency, as Metkina claims, insists that the Kopaygorodskys have not repented of their actions, causing "colossal damage" both to society and to the image of the city of Sochi.
The defense of Yanina Kopaygorodskaya, who also filed an appellate complaint, insists on a deferment of punishment, as she has three minor children dependent on her, a similar request was submitted by the eldest son of the convicted woman.
