Satellite images showed leaks from the sunken parts of the tankers "Volgoneft".
The satellite image taken at the end of October shows a leak at the stern of "Volgoneft-212". Slicks extending from the cofferdams built over the sunken parts of two tankers have been recorded throughout October.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on September 17, the Maritime Rescue Service reported that the radar image from September 16 in the area of the sunken parts of the tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239" indicated pollution of unknown origin. Satellite images of the Kerch Strait also showed slicks extending from the cofferdams installed over the sunken parts of the tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239".
On the radar image from Sentinel-1C dated October 27, 2026, obtained at 06:48 Moscow time, experts from "Transparent World" identified signs of a leak from the cofferdam over the stern of the tanker "Volgoneft-212".
At the time of the shooting, the eastern wind reached 7-8 m/s. According to experts, the preservation of the film trace under such wind indicates a possible leak of medium and even heavy fuel oil fractions, as stated in the Telegram channel of the project.
The Sky Eye project, based on the analysis of radar satellite images from Sentinel-1 on October 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 15, 21, and 27, indicated that slicks are visible extending from bright points – cofferdams built over the sunken bow and stern of the tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239".
On December 15, 2024, two tankers carrying fuel oil sank in the Kerch Strait. As a result, a crew member of one of the tankers died. Additionally, there was a spill of petroleum products, leading to catastrophic environmental consequences, as stated in the report by "Caucasian Knot" "Fuel oil spill in the Kerch Strait". Materials on the consequences of the fuel oil spill have been collected by "Caucasian Knot" on the page "Ecological disaster in Kuban".
