The sentence for Ramiz Mehdiyev was handed down in Azerbaijan.

The former head of the Azerbaijani presidential administration, Ramiz Mehdiyev, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison. At the same time, the court ruled that Mehdiyev's punishment will be conditional.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", last October, the former head of the Azerbaijani presidential administration, Ramiz Mehdiyev, was accused of attempting a coup. He is under house arrest. In early September, he was also charged with bribery. On October 18, Mehdiyev was excluded from the ruling party "Yeni Azerbaijan".

The Baku Serious Crimes Court announced the verdict in the case of Ramiz Mehdiyev on October 27. The former official was sentenced to 14 years in prison, reports Report.

At the same time, Mehdiyev will not be sent to a penal colony: the court applied Article 70 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, which allows elderly and sick convicts to serve their sentences conditionally. Thus, Mehdiyev's punishment will be of a conditional imprisonment nature.

Ramiz Mehdiyev was accused of treason, conspiracy to seize state power with the help of foreign intelligence services, and violent change of the constitutional order, as well as providing assistance to representatives of a foreign state contrary to the interests of Azerbaijan's national security. In addition, he was charged with laundering criminal proceeds amounting to more than 17 million manats (10 million US dollars).

According to the verdict, Ramiz Mehdiyev's property is subject to special confiscation for the benefit of the state. The verdict also ordered to consider the issue of depriving Ramiz Mehdiyev of state awards, notes Baku.ws.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that on November 29, 2025, employees of the State Security Service detained the leader of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, Ali Kerimli, and his advisor, member of the PNFA presidium, Mamed Ibrahim, in connection with the case against Mehdiyev. The opposition members have since remained in custody.

The State Security Service of Azerbaijan announced on February 12 that it had uncovered a conspiracy against the government involving the former head of the presidential administration, Ramiz Mehdiyev, and the leader of the PNFA, Ali Kerimli. According to the SSS, Mehdiyev, Kerimli, PNFA member Mamed Ibrahim, and others acted in conspiracy to violently seize power and change the constitutional order. Mehdiyev's assistant, Eldar Amirov, allegedly participated in the transfer of documents and contacts with foreign entities. The investigation also claims financing and coordination through Azerbaijani diaspora organizations abroad to destabilize the situation in the country, including during the 2013 elections.
