A resident of the Volgograd region has been sentenced to time in a colony for justifying terrorism.
The Southern District Military Court sentenced a 56-year-old resident of the Volgograd region to five years in prison "for justifying the activities of terrorist organizations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine."
"Caucasian Knot" also reported that a 55-year-old resident was detained in Volgograd, accused of financing terrorism and publicly justifying terrorist activities on the internet. According to law enforcement agencies, the man conducted 19 financial transactions with his personal bank card, transferring money for the needs of a movement recognized as extremist and terrorist and banned in Russia.
"The [defendant] was found guilty of committing crimes under part 2 of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of Russia, and he was sentenced to five years in prison in a general regime correctional colony and deprived of the right to engage in activities related to the administration of websites on the Internet for a period of two years. The decision of the instance has not yet entered into force," TASS quotes the press service of the FSB of Russia for the Volgograd region. The name of the convicted person is not disclosed.
Part of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code (public calls for terrorist activities, public justification of terrorism, or propaganda of terrorism) provides, in particular, for imprisonment for a term of 5 to 7 years.
It should be noted that on May 14, the press service of the FSB for the region reported that a 56-year-old local resident posted publications in one of the internet messengers in which he supported and justified the activities of "terrorist organizations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," noted "Interfax." The specific organizations referred to were not mentioned in the report.
Earlier, "Caucasian Knot" reported that courts in southern Russia regularly sentence local residents to real terms in a colony for publications on social networks under the article on justifying terrorism via the internet. It is impossible to establish the actual number of such sentences, as not all cases of justifying terrorism enter the public court records. For example, in Volgograd, on October 20, a local resident Ivan Obolonin was arrested, accused of justifying terrorist activities due to comments in a messenger.
