Funds have been raised to support Alexey Shchus in detention.
Human rights defenders managed to raise 20 thousand rubles to support the convicted Sochi engineer Alexey Shchus for spreading fakes about the army.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the human rights project "Political Prisoner Info" announced a fundraising campaign for the imprisoned Alexey Shchus. Alexey Shchus's father visits him in the colony but refuses to speak in detail about his son's situation, fearing consequences for the family. The relatives of the prisoner do not contact human rights defenders.
In April 2024, Alexey Shchus became a defendant in a criminal case about fakes regarding the army. The case was initiated due to reposts on social media made more than two years ago. In August 2024, investigators also accused the engineer of illegal manufacturing of weapons – a modified slingshot. In January 2025, the Khosta District Court of Sochi sentenced the engineer to five and a half years in a colony for spreading "fakes" about the army out of hatred and for manufacturing a slingshot. In April 2025, the Krasnodar Regional Court upheld the sentence.
The human rights project "Political Prisoner Info" raised the necessary amount for political prisoners, including the Sochi engineer Alexey Shchus. As part of the fundraising, 20 thousand rubles were collected for each of the four people in detention.
"A huge thank you to everyone who responded, made a transfer, or told others about our fundraising. It is through such collective efforts that we manage to help people who find themselves in detention," the project's Telegram channel states.
"We will make the transfers soon, and we will definitely share feedback from political prisoners and their relatives as it comes in," the organizers of the fundraising informed.
