Passengers with an Abkhaz passport encountered difficulties at Moscow airports.
Residents of Abkhazia with dual citizenship face problems crossing the Russian border at Moscow airports with their Abkhaz passport; border guards require a Russian document.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia stated that some residents of the republic with dual Abkhaz-Russian citizenship are experiencing issues when crossing the Russian border at Moscow airports. This concerns the situation where Russian border guards refuse to allow entry or exit from the country for people with dual citizenship using their Abkhaz passport and demand a Russian document.
This issue was raised during a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia Oleg Barcitsa and the Acting Chargé d'Affaires of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Abkhazia Maxim Litvinov.
"The Abkhaz side expressed concern regarding the increasing cases of refusal to citizens of the Republic of Abkhazia, who also hold Russian citizenship, in passing border control when entering the Russian Federation and/or exiting it using the passport of a citizen of the Republic of Abkhazia," the message on the agency's Telegram channel states.
The Ministry noted that this specifically concerns difficulties in document checks at Moscow airports. "The Ministry currently does not have information about similar cases at other border crossing points," the message states.
