The opposition announced the start of a new wave of protests in Georgia.

Opposition parties gathered on the 697th day of daily actions of their supporters for a march against the "Georgian Dream" policy under the slogan "Georgia without Ivanishvili." Participants called the march the start of a new wave of protests amid attempts by the ruling party to ban the activities of opposition parties.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the march under the slogan: "Georgia against the one-party rule of Ivanishvili" took place in Tbilisi on the 696th day of continuous protests amid the Constitutional Court's consideration of a lawsuit to ban opposition parties.

"Georgian Dream" justified the demand to ban opposition parties by Article 23 of the Constitution of Georgia. It prohibits the creation and activities of parties whose goals are the violent change of the constitutional order, encroachment on the independence and territorial integrity of the country, propaganda of war and violence, or incitement of hatred. The "Caucasian Knot" has published a reference "Main points about the ban on opposition parties in Georgia".

Representatives of opposition parties and civil society held a march from Tbilisi State University towards Rustaveli Avenue.

"Glory to Georgia!", "Long live a united and independent Georgia!", participants of the action chant. The slogan of the action: "Georgia without Ivanishvili, the Georgian people deserve better."

"We are starting today, and we definitely need a culmination, whether it will be on November 28 (2 years since the start of the protests — note from the 'Caucasian Knot') or in the following days. It is important that on the 28th we have a lot of people, so that the wind cannot extinguish the fire," said the leader of the "Coalition for Change" Nika Gvaramia before the start of the protest action at the first building of TGU.

According to him, "this action is the beginning of a new wave, not the beginning of a protest."

"The protest, of course, did not start today; it started 2 years ago. The main essence is that this action is the beginning of a new wave, not the beginning of a protest. This wave, in the opinion of many people and in my opinion too, is called 'Georgia without Ivanishvili.' Yes, everything has the right to exist, everything is true, the Georgian people really deserve better, we are really going to Europe, but we will have nothing as long as Bidzina Ivanishvili is a usurper of power in Georgia," the agency quotes him.

This protest is not an action of any party, said the leader of "European Georgia" Gigi Tsereteli before the start of the protest action at the first building of TGU.

"What is happening today in Georgia in terms of the destruction of democracy and destruction is truly unimaginable against the backdrop of the fact that we were a champion country on the path to Eurointegration, and today we are outsiders, parties are being banned, and, in fact, there is a restriction of political life," "Georgia Online" quotes his words.

The march against Ivanishvili's policy took place on the 697th day of continuous protests, writes Publika. According to a video published by the publication, thousands of people participated in the march, holding flags of Georgia, Ukraine, and the EU.

The march was accompanied by a large number of law enforcement officers, according to photographs published on the social media page of Giorgi Mosiashvili.

Participants in the protests in Georgia since November 28, 2024, have been demanding new parliamentary elections and the release of political prisoners. Law enforcement officers conducted harsh dispersals of protests, using tear gas and water cannons, and detained protesters. During the protests, thousands of people have faced administrative prosecution. The "Caucasian Knot" has prepared a reference "Main points about the persecution of protest participants in Georgia".
