Special commissions reunited 3168 divorced couples in the republic.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on July 11, the authorities of Chechnya reported that since the start of the commissions for resolving family conflicts in Chechnya, 6020 divorced couples have been identified, of which 3038 have been reunited. In these families, according to the report, there were 5371 children.
Members of the commission for resolving family conflicts ask strange questions; the conversations resemble interrogations, residents of Grozny who underwent this procedure reported. Representatives of the clergy, elders, and psychologists are unlikely to save a marriage if a serious conflict arises, noted human rights activist Svetlana Gannushkina*.
Since July 4, 2017, when the commissions for resolving family conflicts began operating in Chechnya, as of September 24 of this year, 6063 divorced couples have been identified in the republic, of which 3168 have been reunited. The total number of children in these families is 5217, reported the state television channel "Grozny" on September 24 on its website.
Recall that the commissions for resolving family conflicts began operating in Chechnya on July 4, 2017, at the initiative of the head of the republic Ramzan Kadyrov. Analysts interviewed by "Caucasian Knot" indicated that the reunion of divorced spouses occurs under pressure and often traumatizes people who decided to end their relationships. The head of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Chechnya Supyan Kurbanov reported that the commissions receive information about marriages from a contract with the civil registry authorities.
"Caucasian Knot" also reported that human rights defenders called the situation with women's rights in the republics of the North Caucasus critical. According to their assessment, local traditions and customs create conditions for domestic violence, the authorities perceive a husband's physical abuse as normal, and victims avoid contacting the police.
