Electricity supply has been restored to the homes of residents in four districts of Dagestan.

Energy workers eliminated the consequences of the accident, after which residents of 11 settlements in the Khassavyurt, Khunzakh, Derbent, and Sergokalinsky districts were left without electricity.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on October 23, emergency power outages occurred in Dagestan, affecting seven settlements in the Khassavyurt and Khunzakh districts.

Emergency recovery work was completed the same day, and power supply was restored, reported the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Dagestan on its website.

According to updated data from the agency, 11 settlements in the Khassavyurt, Khunzakh, Derbent, and Sergokalinsky districts were affected by the outage.

In the summer of 2025, the head of Dagestan acknowledged that the energy supply system in the republic "is operating at its limit," and the networks "are not ready for such loads". At the same time, the official noted the inefficiency and sluggishness of the authorities.

In Makhachkala, prolonged power outages led to spontaneous protests

Residents of Dagestan regularly complain about power outages and take to protests demanding the restoration of electricity supply. For instance, on August 13, Makhachkala residents blocked traffic due to a three-day power outage. Energy workers explained the outage as a result of damage to a facility on private property.

On the evening of August 6, residents of houses on Kadyrov Street in Makhachkala blocked the road due to daily power outages. According to the townspeople, electricity was restored only after the protest began.

In February, residents of the Reducer settlement in Makhachkala reported outages lasting 6-10 hours and unproductive appeals to officials. Due to the lack of electricity, heating and water supply did not work in homes, and some families were forced to move in with relatives.

Unresolved issues in the housing and utilities sector are a factor in the growth of protest activity in Dagestan, said Sergey Bachurin, head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the North Caucasus Federal District, on January 19. Makhachkala residents agreed with his opinion.
