The investigation announced the cause of death of Baymurodova.
Russia left the second request from the Investigative Committee of Armenia for assistance in the investigation of the murder of Chechen native Aishat Baymurodova unanswered. The cause of death was identified by the investigation as asphyxiation.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", 23-year-old Chechen native Aishat Baymurodova was found dead on October 19 in a rented apartment in Yerevan. She fled to Armenia from domestic violence but publicly criticized the Kadyrov regime. Russia ignored the request for assistance in the investigation . In the case materials, the presumed cause of Aishat's death was named in February as mechanical asphyxiation, but there is a caveat that it was impossible to definitively establish the cause of death. A year after the death of Chechen Aishat Baymurodova in Armenia, those responsible for her murder are still not found, and no one has been held accountable, human rights activists pointed out.
The Investigative Committee of Armenia has not received a response from Russia since June regarding the request for assistance in the investigation of the murder of Chechen refugee Aishat Baymurodova, "Vot Tak"* reported, citing the press service of the agency.
On June 16, the Investigative Committee of Armenia sent a request for legal assistance to their Russian colleagues but has not received a response. This is already the second request that has gone unanswered.
The Investigative Committee of Armenia named the final cause of death of the girl. The investigation established that she died from asphyxiation.
"The cause of death of Aishat Baymurodova was mechanical asphyxia due to airway obstruction or compression of the neck organs," the Investigative Committee of Armenia reported.
Investigators also confirmed that two suspects are still wanted internationally. According to the response from the Armenian agency to the October request from "Vot Tak"*, the investigation is considering the presence of several instigators of the crime. Their identities have also not been established, the publication states.
The agency has suspended procedural deadlines in this case, as it has not been possible to establish the whereabouts of the suspects. According to the general rule for particularly serious crimes, which include contract killings, the investigation must complete all pre-trial procedures within ten months, the investigation reported in response to the request.
23-year-old Chechen native Aishat Baymurodova was found dead on October 19, 2025, in a rented apartment in Yerevan. She was last seen alive on October 15. She fled to Armenia from domestic violence but publicly criticized the Kadyrov regime. Human rights activists have not received final results of the examination of Baymurodova's body. A request was sent to Russia regarding her burial, but no one has come forward to take Baymurodova's body home in three months.
Baymurodova told human rights activists that she fled "from beatings". According to the girl, she had to leave home due to violence from her husband, and she could not return to her parents' house because she feared facing violence from her father. After leaving Russia, she arrived in Armenia.
Aishat Baymurodova's relatives live in the Gudermes district, and many of them, like the former husband of the murdered woman, are connected to law enforcement agencies, wrote a reader of "Caucasian Knot" with the nickname nerissa on January 30. "One of the reasons for the murder, some observers believe, could be that the girl not only led a 'wrong' lifestyle from the perspective of her relatives but also [...] dared to threaten her father with exposing some facts about his [behavior] and openly criticized the Chechen authorities. Thus, in addition to everything else, her murder can also be seen as a demonstration of loyalty of her relatives to the leadership of the republic," the reader pointed out.
Near the house where Baymurodova's body was found, Karina Iminova, with whom Aishat met before her death, and 30-year-old Chechen native Said-Khamzat Baisarov were seen. According to human rights activists, Karina Iminova lied to acquaintances about her past and deliberately befriended people who had left Chechnya, while she herself is not a native of Chechnya but has been to this republic. Iminova and Baisarov left Armenia for Russia immediately after Baymurodova's murder.
In April 2026, it became known that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia put Karina Iminova and Said-Khamzat Baisarov on the wanted list, who are suspected of murdering Chechen Aishat Baymurodova. Iminova is also wanted as a missing person. Since then, there has been no information from law enforcement agencies of Russia and Armenia regarding the investigation of Baymurodova's murder and the results of the search.
