Activists demanded that the German authorities stop the deportation of Chechen refugees.
Participants of the action in front of the German embassy in Vienna called for careful consideration of asylum requests from Chechen refugees, as there is a threat to their freedom and life in case of deportation.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on August 19, representatives of the Chechen diaspora at a rally in Bern called on the German authorities to stop the deportation of refugees from Chechnya and to objectively consider the cases of people facing expulsion. In September, it became known that seven natives of Chechnya were deported from Germany, despite the fact that they provided German authorities with evidence of persecution in their homeland.
A protest in support of Chechen refugees in Germany and other European countries, who face deportation to Chechnya or Russia, where they may be subjected to persecution, torture, and even death, took place in front of the German embassy in Vienna.
The action on October 21 was attended by representatives of Chechen, Ukrainian, and Austrian activists, activist Roza Dunaeva reported on her Instagram.
According to her, after the protest, an official appeal was submitted to the German embassy in Vienna calling for the protection of Chechen refugees and for their cases to be considered carefully and individually.
In particular, this concerns Mansur Yakhyaev, Muslim Alkhazov, Said Abuyev, Zelimkhan Magomedov, Yusuf Shamilov, Ali Murtazov, Salavdi Shakhbiyev, and Alikhan Bistiev.
"For those who are under threat of persecution, returning can pose a serious threat to their freedom, safety, and life. Asylum cases must be assessed individually, objectively, and taking into account the current conditions and personal circumstances of each applicant. Official references to Russian legislation or general information sources cannot replace a thorough assessment of the real risks faced by people. We urge German and other European authorities to comply with their international obligations, ensure fair consideration of each asylum case, and prevent returns to places where people face persecution, torture, or inhumane treatment," the statement said.
Recall that on July 31, human rights defenders pointed out that hundreds of refugees from Chechnya are at risk of deportation from European countries. The decision to deport Muslim Alkhazov from Germany was appealed, while representatives of the diaspora linked the increase in asylum rejections to the tightening of migration policy and insufficient consideration of the risks of returning to Chechnya.
On August 10, it became known that the German authorities denied asylum to the Abuyev family and their four children. According to the human rights defender, the head of the family spent several years in detention in Chechnya, and the family informed the German authorities about the persecution, threats, and fears regarding a possible return to Russia.
