A ban on passage on the Transcaucasian highway has been introduced.
The movement of vehicles on the Transcaucasian highway between Russia and South Ossetia is prohibited due to unsafe passage.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on April 12, a ban was introduced on the passage of all types of vehicles on the Transcaucasian highway. The ban was lifted on the evening of April 13.
The Transcaucasian highway (Transkam) runs through the Main Caucasian Ridge and is the only year-round route connecting Russia and South Ossetia.
The movement of all vehicles on the section from Buron to the northern portal of the Roki Tunnel in both directions is prohibited from 11:00 Moscow time until further notice, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of North Ossetia reported today on its website.
The ban was introduced "due to the inability to ensure the safe passage of vehicles on the Transcaucasian highway, as well as in accordance with the recommendation of the Federal State Institution of the Road Administration 'Caucasus'," the publication notes.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations of South Ossetia also announced the ban. "From 11:00 on October 22, the Transcaucasian highway is closed for the movement of vehicles in both directions," the agency succinctly reported on its Telegram channel.
Recall that in February, a ban on passage on the Transcaucasian highway was introduced due to a landslide. In North Ossetia, a minibus was caught in a landslide with passengers, but no one was injured.
