Makhachkala officials ignored the prosecutor's requirement to provide residents with water supply.
The administration of Makhachkala did not fulfill the prosecutor's requirement to provide residents of three apartment buildings on Shamil Avenue with uninterrupted hot water supply, after which the agency filed a lawsuit against the officials.
According to the Prosecutor's Office of Dagestan, residents of houses No. 43a, 45a, and 45b on Imam Shamil Avenue in Makhachkala systematically face interruptions in hot water supply due to the depletion of resources from the geothermal well.
The supervisory agency organized an inspection after residents complained on social media. The Prosecutor's Office of the Lenin District submitted a proposal to the city head demanding the elimination of violations; however, the municipality did not take effective measures, reported RIA "Dagestan" on October 20.
After that, the district prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit in the Soviet District Court of Makhachkala. The agency demanded that the city administration ensure residents of the three houses with quality and uninterrupted hot water supply.
On the results of the initial inspection, the prosecutor's office reported on its website on August 17. At that time, the agency established that after the depletion of the well's resources, the houses were not connected to centralized hot water supply networks. The prosecutor's office stated that the elimination of violations and the restoration of residents' rights are under its control.
"Caucasian Knot" also reported that residents of Makhachkala regularly complain about interruptions in water supply. For instance, on December 15, 2025, a water outage due to an accident at the treatment facilities affected two districts of the city, and some houses were also left without heating. Residents expressed outrage at the need to search for water in stores before the workday.
Earlier, on July 5, 2024, residents of the village of Bogatyrevka, which is part of Makhachkala, called unresolved the problem of water scarcity, despite appeals to the authorities. According to them, the previously organized water delivery has also ceased.
