A resident of Volgograd has been detained on charges of justifying terrorism.
FSB officers detained a resident of Volgograd, seeing support and justification for terrorist organizations in his comments on Telegram.
The detained man is 41 years old. The article on justifying terrorism on the internet (part 2 of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of Russia) provides for a prison sentence of five to seven years.
Courts in southern Russia regularly sentence local residents to real prison terms for publications on social networks under the article on justifying terrorism via the internet. It is impossible to establish the actual number of such sentences, as not all cases of justifying terrorism make it into public court registries.
According to security officials, the resident of Volgograd used his account in the "foreign messenger Telegram" to publish comments, V1 reports, citing a representative of the regional FSB.
Security officials concluded that the man's remarks "expressed justification for the activities of two military formations" recognized as terrorist organizations in the Russian Federation. These organizations are banned in Russia, and their names are not mentioned in the special services' statement.
"The man has been detained, and a decision is being made regarding the choice of a preventive measure," added the agency representative. The occupation of the suspect was not specified by the FSB. It is also not reported whether he agreed with the charges.
In a short operational video recording, it can be seen that armed security officials detained the man in his home, knocking him to the floor. He was handcuffed before he could get dressed; later, he was allowed to put on a tracksuit. The face of the detained man is obscured in the footage.
"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in early October, security officials detained a 36-year-old resident of Sochi on charges of justifying terrorism due to his comments in the messenger.
