Residents of Terek pointed out the unresolved problem of illegal dumps to the authorities.

The forest behind the railway in Terek has turned into a garbage-strewn area, noted a local resident on social media. Other residents, commenting on his post, linked the emergence of illegal dumps to irregular garbage collection and criticized officials and the waste management operator.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", residents of Terek have repeatedly complained about the problem of illegal dumps. For instance, in June 2023, municipal services eliminated a dump at the corner of Shautcukov and Pushkin streets in Terek after appeals from local residents. The Regional Management Center of Kabardino-Balkaria reported the elimination of the dump, which forwarded the complaints to the local administration.

The wooded area behind the railway in Terek has been covered in garbage, complained one local resident on social media. The video published alongside his appeal shows a dirt road and extensive accumulations of household waste, plastic packaging, bags, and wood debris.

On October 15, the Instagram*-public goloskbr, which has about 193.8 thousand followers, published the video. As of 10:45 AM Moscow time on October 18, this post had received 328 likes and 43 comments.

Other local residents complained in the comments about interruptions in waste collection, stating that they have to take out the garbage themselves.

"In the last few months, garbage has been collected once a month. It’s impossible to walk on the streets; there’s an unpleasant smell. People are taking the garbage out of desperation," wrote dzhuletta5242.

"Exactly, if only it were once every two weeks. And the situation around the lake is just terrible. Our city used to be very clean, but now... And please pay attention to the street lighting," pointed out radina2501.

"At least there used to be a dump; we used to take our garbage there. Now there are neither dumps nor regular "Ecologistika". I’m not justifying the garbage dump, but hanging cameras won’t solve the problem," noted tsunamiiii.z.

Other commentators placed the blame for the state of the city not only on the residents but also on officials and the organization responsible for waste collection.

"This city is getting worse every year. Everyone is to blame: the administration, the residents, and the one who took on the waste collection, but so far they are only collecting payments for it," wrote lari_sa2767.

"But they reported and received gratitude that everything is super with garbage collection here," ironically noted osagoavto_.

"I don’t justify them, but if garbage were collected, I think this wouldn’t have happened," wrote zamir89064.

Some participants in the discussion pointed out that the garbage is thrown into the forest by the residents themselves. Others suggested installing cameras and increasing control over the pollution of the area.

"You turned it into this? You did it yourselves; it wasn’t brought in from other republics!" wrote flora_fauna111.

"Let the city administration install cameras throughout this area and hang a banner with a fine," suggested oksana29939.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that residents of Kabardino-Balkaria periodically complain about garbage issues. For example, at the end of June, residents of Prokhladny reported that garbage from some waste collection points had not been removed for months. According to them, garbage had not been collected at the intersection of Kommunisticheskaya Street and Krasny Lane since early March and at least until June 27.

Recall that since May 15, a new regional waste collection operator, "Ecotekhprom", has been operating in Kabardino-Balkaria. However, residents of the republic, who previously reported problems with waste collection, told a correspondent of "Caucasian Knot" that there has not yet been a significant improvement in the situation since the new operator began work has not occurred. The previous operator, LLC "Ekologistika", effectively went bankrupt, noted "Kommersant" on June 10.
