Today marks the 689th day of continuous protests – citizens gathered at the building of the Parliament and the City Council of Tbilisi. A Saturday march also took place today, starting from Avlabari Square and ending at Rustaveli, reports Publika.
According to photos published by the outlet, the fifth president of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, participated in today's march.
Participants of the march held flags of Georgia, the EU, Ukraine, slogans against the policies of the "Georgian Dream," posters with portraits of imprisoned participants of the protests, and demands for their release.
"No to Torture," "Georgia without Bidzina Ivanishvili" — the main slogans of today's Saturday march, which took place for the 44th time, reports JamNews.
The marches are part of regular actions that have been taking place since the fall of 2024. The main demands remain unchanged: the release of those detained during European actions and the appointment of new parliamentary elections.
As seen in a video published by the outlet, the gathered participants walked along the central streets of Tbilisi to the rhythmic sound of drums that accompany each march.
Family members of the convicted Giorgi Davitadze, who was tortured in custody, also joined the participants of the rally, writes "Interpressnews".
"I urge all prisoners, parents, relatives: do not retreat. No one dares to hide the dirt that is happening in prisons," said the father of Giorgi Davitadze.
Protesters in Georgia have been demanding new parliamentary elections and the release of political prisoners since November 28, 2024. Security forces have conducted harsh dispersals of protests, using tear gas and water cannons, and detained protesters. Thousands of people have faced administrative prosecution during the protests. "Caucasian Knot" has prepared a report "Main points on the persecution of protest participants in Georgia".
