A resident of Dagestan is accused of justifying terrorism.
The military court in Rostov-on-Don will consider the case of a resident of Dagestan, whose publication on social media was deemed to justify terrorism by law enforcement.
Courts in southern Russia regularly sentence local residents to real terms in prison for publications on social media under the article on justifying terrorism via the internet. It is impossible to establish the actual number of such sentences, as not all cases of justifying terrorism make it into the public court records.
The Prosecutor's Office of Dagestan has sent a case against a resident of the Derbent district to the Southern District Military Court. The woman is charged with public calls for terrorism and justifying terrorism on the internet (part 2 of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of Russia).
According to the prosecution's version, in January 2026, the woman posted video material in an unnamed "public channel" of a social network. This recording "contains calls for terrorist activity and statements aimed at justifying terrorism," claims the republic's prosecutor's office in an official Telegram channel.
The age and occupation of the accused are not mentioned in the agency's report. It also does not specify what preventive measure was chosen for the woman and whether she pleaded guilty.
The article on justifying terrorism online provides for a prison sentence of five to seven years. The open registry of the Southern District Military Court contains several recently received cases with the names of the accused hidden; among the named individuals whose cases were submitted for consideration since October 1, there are no women.
The "Caucasian Knot" also reported that in September, a court in St. Petersburg sent lawyer Nurd Shamaev from Chechnya to a pre-trial detention center, seeing justification of terrorism in his comment. Shamaev himself did not plead guilty.
