Individual birds in oil products appeared near Sochi after the fire on the tanker.
In the Lazarevskoye area, a bird was found completely covered in an oil film, but there are no spots on the coast near Sochi and Tuapse, reported ecologist Georgy Kavanoyan. The Marine Rescue Service reported the towing of the vessel.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the beaches in Sochi and the federal territory of "Sirius" have resumed operations. According to monitoring data, no sea pollution has been recorded after the fire on the oil tanker Aframax Rio, authorities reported. A trail of over 20 km is trailing behind the Aframax Rio tanker, which is being towed after the fire. There are currently no emissions on the shores, and the oil tanks are likely undamaged, ecologists indicated.
On the evening of October 6, a fire broke out on the oil tanker Aframax Rio in the Black Sea near Sochi, after which the beaches in Sirius were closed, and access to the embankments and beaches in Sochi was restricted. On October 7, the Ministry of Transport confirmed that the fire started after an attack by unmanned boats. 23 crew members were evacuated, and there were no injuries.
On the Black Sea coast, individual oil-soaked birds are being found, reported ecologist Georgy Kavanoyan today on his Telegram channel. "For example, this one was found in the Lazarevskoye area," he wrote, attaching a photo of a bird, a duck, completely covered in a black oil layer.
"But overall, everything is fine: from Tuapse to Sochi along the sea, there are no spots either on the water or on the land," he wrote in another message.
According to him, the vessel, surrounded by booms, is being towed, and on October 10, the tanker was passing through Kabardinka.
At the same time, the Marine Rescue Service reported the day before that the vessel had already been towed.
"The vessel has been towed and boom barriers have been installed, and the necessary reserve of sorbent has been formed. Marine Rescue Service specialists are assessing the technical condition of the tanker," the agency reported.
Ecologists indicated that they were unable to obtain satellite images of the Sochi coast after the fire on the attacked tanker, writes "Cautiously, news".
"In the conditions of the SVO, such manifestations in REB images occur quite regularly in strategically important places. In this case, it is happening in the Sochi area," they told "Transparent World". An image is attached to the report, part of which is simply covered with stripes and does not reflect data on land and at sea.
The Aframax Rio tanker was sailing under the flag of Liberia with a cargo of crude oil from Novorossiysk to India and, according to sources, was almost fully loaded. Due to the intense burning of the oil, rescue vessels initially could not safely approach the tanker. Ecologist Georgy Kavanoyan pointed out that the Aframax Rio has a carrying capacity of 107 thousand tons, while the carrying capacity of the tankers "Volgoneft" that sank in the Kerch Strait was up to five thousand tons each. According to his assessment, a significant portion of the oil could have burned in the fire, but there remained a risk of a large amount of oil entering the sea.
