Evacuation was required for passengers of the cable car on Elbrus.
Passengers of the "Azau-Krugozor" cable car had to be evacuated from the stopped cabins due to a cable break while an excavator was working.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on June 6, the Elbrus District Court, at the request of the prosecutor's office, ordered LLC "Pendulum Cable Car Elbrus" to pay 3 million rubles to the parents of a person who died during the cable car break on Elbrus in 2025 and to the relatives of two men who died in the accident in September 2025.
On September 12, 2025, as a result of a cable break on the Elbrus mountain cable car, three people died, and another 11 were injured. The director and chief engineer of the company servicing the cable car were detained and arrested in connection with the case of the fatalities, and they were charged under the article on providing dangerous services (part 3 of article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which provides for up to 10 years of imprisonment). The bank accounts of LLC "MKD Elbrus" have been frozen, and the case was transferred to court at the end of January.
On the morning of October 9, an excavator from the contracting organization damaged the communication cable on the slope while carrying out construction and installation work, which temporarily halted the operation of the "Azau - Krugozor" cable car at the Elbrus resort, the resort "Elbrus" reported today.
"Rescuers acted according to instructions, all passengers of the cable car were evacuated within the regulatory time, and there are no injuries. The cable is currently being restored — we will definitely inform about the launch dates. We deeply regret that the vertical evacuation skills, which our rescuers regularly hone, were needed yesterday. We apologize to the guests of Elbrus. We are working 24/7 to restore the cable car," the message states.
On Sunday, October 11, the cable car is not operating, the resort "Elbrus" reported today on its Telegram channel.
