The court in South Ossetia fined Georgian citizens Giorgi Zhuzhniashvili and Dito Muradashvili, who crossed the border of the republic. They will be deported to Georgia.

As reported by "

According to the KGB of South Ossetia, at the beginning of September, Giorgi Zhuzhniashvili and Dito Muradashvili illegally crossed the border of the republic; they are residents of the villages of Berbuki and Patara Garejvari in the Gori municipality. They crossed the border near the village of Amdzarin in the Leninogorsk district, where they were detained by law enforcement, writes the state information agency "Res".

On October 9, the Leninogorsk district court found Zhuzhniashvili and Muradashvili guilty of illegally crossing the state border, fined them, and also ordered their deportation to Georgia after the fine is paid.

Recall that in 2018, the Ministry of Justice of Georgia submitted a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights "Georgia v. Russian Federation", which concerns the oppression of ethnic Georgians in the territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, violations of the rights of residents of border villages, and borderization. On April 9, 2024, the ECHR ruled that the Russian authorities violated the rights of Georgian citizens by establishing the line of demarcation. This ECHR decision has political significance, but its practical implementation is only possible in the distant future, Georgian analysts noted.

Restrictions on crossing the line of demarcation with Abkhazia and South Ossetia violate the rights of residents of border villages, who cannot engage in farming and risk being detained, according to a report by an international human rights organization ("Caucasian Knot" can provide the name of the organization upon request) "", published on "Caucasian Knot".
