A resident of Dagestan has been accused of justifying terrorism.

The audio recording published by a resident of Makhachkala in one of the Telegram chats was considered by the investigation as justification of terrorism.

The investigative department for the Kirov district of Makhachkala of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Republic of Dagestan has initiated a criminal case against a local resident under Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation for justifying and promoting terrorism (part 2), the Investigative Committee's office in Dagestan reported today.

According to the investigation, while in Makhachkala, the suspect posted in one of the Telegram messenger chats an audio material containing statements aimed at forming the ideology of terrorism and the notion of the permissibility of carrying out terrorist activities. The posted material was accessible for review by an unlimited number of users of the messenger.

Currently, investigative actions are being conducted in the criminal case aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the incident and gathering evidence.

The name of the suspect and the essence of the messages are not specified.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", courts in southern Russia regularly sentence local residents to real terms in prison for publications on social networks under the article on justifying terrorism via the internet. It is not possible to establish the actual number of such sentences, as not all cases of justifying terrorism are included in the public court registries.
