The defense announced an appeal against the arrest of the Azerbaijani oppositionist.

Allies called the administrative arrest of 20 days of the member of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, Anar Guseynov, politically motivated.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the activist of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, Anar Guseynov, was detained near his home in Baku on the morning of October 6. People in civilian clothes took the oppositionist away in an unknown direction, the head of the press service of the PFPA, Natig Adilov, told the correspondent of “Caucasian Knot”.

The fate of Guseynov became clear closer to the evening of October 7. “Official authorities confirmed the fact of the detention of Anar Arkiyan. After the detention, he was taken to the police, and then to court, which imposed an administrative arrest for 20 days. What exactly was charged to Anar, we do not know yet. One thing is clear: the accusation is fabricated,” Adilov said today to the correspondent of “Caucasian Knot”.

According to him, after the detention of the oppositionist, police officers came to his home.

“The security forces demanded Anar's wife to hand over his mobile phone. However, she said she did not know where the phone was. Then they retreated after taking Anar's identity card. At the same time, they did not say why Anar was detained. The demand to hand over Anar's phone further proves the political motives behind his arrest. Let's say he committed an administrative offense, but what does the phone have to do with it? It is obvious that he is being pursued because of his activity on social media, where he actively protested against the arrest of our party leader Ali Kerimli, posting about socio-economic issues. This is already Anar's third arrest this year,” Adilov said.

He added that the party will involve a lawyer specializing in human rights protection for Guseynov's defense and appeal against the arrest.

Let us remind you that Anar Guseynov was detained on June 16. The next day, the court arrested him for 30 days under the article on disobedience to the police. The party considered this accusation fabricated and politically motivated.

In addition, Anar Guseynov was arrested in January administratively for 30 days on charges of disobedience to the police and petty hooliganism. The oppositionist was also detained on January 20, 2023, by people in civilian clothes near the cabinet of ministers after he visited the Alley of Martyrs with party members on the Day of Mourning for “Black January”. On the same day, by court decision, he was arrested for 30 days.
