Ramazan Abdulatipov's brother was released from the colony early.

Convicted to 12 years in a strict regime, Rajab Abdulatipov, the brother of the former head of Dagestan Ramazan Abdulatipov, was released after spending less than eight years in prison.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", Rajab Abdulatipov, who headed the committee on education, science, and culture in the Dagestan parliament, was detained and taken into custody in September 2018 in connection with the case of the head of the Main Bureau of Medical and Social Expertise, Magomed Makhaev. In March 2021, a court in Moscow sentenced Rajab Abdulatipov to 12 years in a strict regime colony, finding him guilty of bribery and fraud.

In November 2018, the Investigative Committee of Russia charged Rajab Abdulatipov with participating in a criminal community. Abdulatipov did not admit his guilt. The prosecution requested 15 years in a strict regime with a fine of eight million rubles for him.

On October 7, the head of the Public Monitoring Commission (PMC) of the republic, Shamil Khadulaev, reported on the release of Rajab Abdulatipov, the brother of the former head of Dagestan.

Rajab Abdulatipov spent 7 years and 11 months in custody, Khadulaev indicated in his Telegram channel. He did not specify the grounds for his early release.

The Dagestani Telegram channel “Ask Rasul” provides two possible reasons for Abdulatipov's release. “According to one version, he was released on parole. According to another – his imprisonment was replaced with community service,” the channel's message states.

In May 2023, the former head of the Main Bureau of Medical and Social Expertise for Dagestan, Magomed Makhaev, took advantage of the opportunity to replace the unserved part of his sentence with community service. His court in the summer of 2021 sentenced him to seven years and six months of imprisonment for receiving bribes for issuing disability certificates.

Ramazan Abdulatipov was the head of Dagestan from 2013 to 2017. When he became the head of the republic, it was expected that a fight against bureaucratic arbitrariness, corruption, and embezzlement would unfold in Dagestan, according to the report from "Caucasian Knot" "Purification of power in the Abdulatipov way.”

In the months following Abdulatipov's departure from office, large-scale inspections began in Dagestan, followed by the arrests of high-ranking officials, including the head of the republic's government and his deputies. The former head of Dagestan publicly criticized the arrests of these officials, whom journalists referred to as representatives of the “mekegin” clan close to Abdulatipov.
