The court in Gudermes announced the verdict for Omarov.
Chechen Said-Magomed Omarov has been sentenced to eight years and two months in a penal colony for the murder of the pharmacist from Khasavyurt, Alexey Kardashov. Omarov has already served most of this term.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", during the debates in the Gudermes City Court, the prosecution representative requested 10 years of imprisonment for Said-Magomed Omarov, accused of murdering the pharmacist from Dagestan, Alexey Kardashov. Omarov's defense confirms his conflict with Kardashov but insists that he was acting in self-defense: allegedly, Kardashov attacked him, Omarov struck back, then got scared, put the body in a car, and disposed of it from a height. In his final statement, the defendant confirmed this version.
In 2020, Chechen Said-Magomed Omarov was sentenced to nine years in a penal colony for the murder of Dagestani pharmacist Alexey Kardashov and for stealing his car, but this sentence was overturned by the Supreme Court of Chechnya. In 2023, the Nozhai-Yurt District Court found Omarov guilty of murdering Kardashov and sentenced him to eight years and two months in a strict regime penal colony. The Supreme Court of Chechnya refused to satisfy the appeal against the verdict in November 2024.
The Gudermes City Court today announced the introductory and dispositive parts of the verdict for Said-Magomed Omarov, finding him guilty of murdering Alexey Kardashov and stealing the victim's car.
The court sentenced Omarov to eight years and two months in a strict regime penal colony. As an additional punishment, he was given a restriction of freedom (administrative supervision) for one and a half years, reported a representative of the "Team Against Torture"* to a correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot".
The measure of restraint for the accused remains unchanged until the verdict enters into legal force, which is detention. Omarov, arrested on April 8, 2019, has already spent 7.5 years in pre-trial detention and in a penal colony. According to his article, one day in pre-trial detention counts as one day served in the penal colony, so Omarov has eight months left until the end of his sentence.
The verdict for Said-Magomed Omarov will be appealed by the representatives of the victim, added the representative of the CPP*.
Alexey Kardashov, who owned a pharmacy in Khasavyurt, left home on September 14, 2017, and did not return; his body has not yet been found. Investigators believe that the National Guard officers Bekhan Abdurashidov and Aslan Dukayev took Kardashov to Chechnya and left him with Said-Magomed Omarov, who killed Kardashov during a quarrel. The basis for the prosecution of Abdurashidov and Dukayev was Omarov's testimony, which he gave when the investigation was conducted in Dagestan. After the case was transferred to Chechnya, he signed a confession.
The mother of Alexey Kardashov, Tsilya Yakubova, previously told a correspondent of "Caucasian Knot" that there have been no developments in the search for her son's body. She also expressed outrage at the very accusation and the location of the trial. "As long as this is in Chechnya, it will be like this. The lawyers are working, but it's useless. And every new mention (of my son's fate) hurts me," Yakubova lamented.
