Sevrynovsky* received compensation for his arrest from Dagestani security forces.

Journalist Vladimir Sevrynovsky* received compensation from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Dagestan for his unlawful five-day arrest four years after his detention at a protest against mobilization in Makhachkala.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", large-scale protests against mobilization took place in Makhachkala on September 25 and 26, 2022, ending with mass detentions. Journalists covering the protests were also taken to the police, including Vladimir Sevrynovsky*. He was arrested for five days and later managed to have the sentence overturned. However, investigators refused to register his complaint about the unlawful detention at the rally for more than a year. In September 2025, the Soviet District Court of Makhachkala recognized the fact of the journalist's unlawful detention, but reduced the compensation amount in his claim by 200 times.

Vladimir Sevrynovsky* is a journalist and writer, photographer, expert on the Caucasus, one of the founders of the tourist company Caucasus Explorer and initiators of the creation of the first hiking trail through the regions of the North Caucasus from the Caspian to the Black Sea. In February 2026, the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation declared Sevrynovsky* a foreign agent.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Dagestan paid journalist Vladimir Sevrynovsky* eight thousand rubles for unlawful detention and arrest in September 2022. He received this compensation four years after his detention.

“You will laugh, but after four years I still received compensation from the Dagestani Center E for my five-day stay in the special detention center of Makhachkala, a whole eight thousand,” Sevrynovsky* wrote on his Facebook* page.

Sevrynovsky*’s colleague, journalist from Rostov-on-Don Victoria Nekrasova noted that in the four years since his detention, he acquired the status of a foreign agent.

“I wonder if they will now face punishment for transferring money to a foreign agent?” she ironically asked in the comments to the post.

Sevrynovsky* tagged in the post journalist Yulia Vishnevetskaya, who was also detained at the same protest and is also seeking compensation for unlawful detention, asking if anything was paid to her. “I have nowhere to transfer it, I no longer have a Russian account, and I can't use someone else's,” Vishnevetskaya replied in the comments.

"Caucasian Knot" reported that in 2025, the Soviet District Court of Makhachkala partially satisfied Yulia Vishnevetskaya's claim for moral damages for unlawful detention and arrest at the protest against mobilization. She requested 300 thousand rubles in compensation, and the court ordered to pay her 10 thousand rubles.
