A Krasnodar resident publicly apologized for beating a store clerk.
A resident of Krasnodar recorded a video message with public apologies to the store clerk and other citizens after a video surfaced on social media showing him beating the woman.
In his video message, the resident of Krasnodar stated that he regrets what happened and asked for forgiveness from the victim and other citizens. The video was published today by the Telegram channel "Tipodar Krasnodar".
"Good day, dear residents of the city of Krasnodar. I want to apologize to Alena Vladimirovna and everyone whom my actions have affected. I sincerely regret and ask for your forgiveness," he said.
The incident occurred on the evening of October 2 in a store on Gertsen Street in Krasnodar, according to the video description.
The video of the incident in question was also published on October 3 in the Telegram channel "Tipodar Krasnodar". The footage from the surveillance camera shows a man in a blue jacket arguing with the saleswoman behind the counter. He then grabs the woman, after which the participants in the conflict strike each other. The man knocks the saleswoman to the floor and continues to hit her with his hands and feet. After a while, he steps back, while the woman remains on the floor and then gets up.
A report of bodily harm was received by the police from a 37-year-old employee of the store located on Gertsen Street. A verbal altercation escalated into a fight during which the participants struck each other multiple times, the Krasnodar police department reported on October 3.
"Caucasian Knot" also reported that the problem of domestic and family violence, including against women and children, has been relevant in the southern regions of Russia for a long time. For instance, on July 16 of this year, a resident of Gelendzhik was convicted for torturing 12 foster children. In May 2024, a resident of Krasnodar, Maria Smelaya, complained to human rights defenders about systematic beatings and threats from her husband and was placed in a shelter for victims of domestic violence. In April 2020, a resident of Novorossiysk was suspected of systematically torturing her six-year-old son.
The practice of public apologies, initiated by Ramzan Kadyrov, has spread beyond Chechnya to other regions of Russia. More about this practice can be read in the "Caucasian Knot" reference "The Fashion for Apologies: From Chechnya to the Outskirts".
