Mansur Movlaev spoke about his condition in the pre-trial detention center.

Every time the door of the cell in the pre-trial detention center opens, it causes fear due to the threat of extradition and concerns about retribution in Chechnya, wrote Mansur Movlaev in his letter from the isolation facility. He compared the possible extradition to the Russian authorities to waiting for the execution of a death sentence.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", earlier the Chechen prosecutor's office refused to recognize the abduction of the parents of Chechen native Mansur Movlaev – Khava and Movsar Movlaevs, considering the investigation's decision not to initiate a criminal case as lawful. Human rights activist Maxim Rudnev questioned the agency's conclusions . Based on similar cases that occurred in Chechnya, the incident involving Mansur Movlaev's parents can be considered abduction, he noted.

Mansur Movlaev wrote a letter from the pre-trial detention center in Almaty (Kazakhstan), where he is being held, to human rights activist Maxim Rudnev. Photocopies of the letter were published by Rudnev today on his Telegram channel. He explained that the letter was sent to him by Movlaev's lawyer.

Movlaev shared that he is in constant anxiety. "Every time the door of the cell I am in opens, my heart stops... I feel like a person sentenced to death, but the day of execution has not been set. Although my situation is even more complicated – those sentenced to death are killed immediately. I will be tortured first, and then killed," wrote Movlaev.

In his letter, he posed a question to the world community about whether there is a difference between those who will hand him over to where he expects retribution and the actual executor of the retribution. He placed the responsibility for a possible extradition on the authorities of Kazakhstan, although this country, according to him, gave him hope for salvation.

"A country that sheltered and saved my people, my ancestors in 1944. I ate Kazakh food, breathed the air of Kazakhstan, walked on Kazakh land... Is there really no place for mercy for me?" – Movlaev wondered.

On February 23, 1944, the operation "Chechevitsa" began, during which nearly 500,000 Chechens and Ingush were forcibly resettled from the territory of the Chechen-Ingush ASSR to Kazakhstan and Central Asia. More about these events and their consequences can be read in the "Caucasian Knot" reference "Deportation of Chechens and Ingush".

Movlaev noted in his letter that there is little time left for his fate to become clear. He described the prospect of possible extradition through the image of an executioner and a gallows. "We will soon see... And the executioner is waiting, and the gallows are ready," Movlaev noted.

Recall that in 2022, Mansur Movlaev was detained by security forces in Chechnya and was held in an illegal prison. In January 2023, he escaped from there and made it to Kyrgyzstan. In August 2023, security forces in Kyrgyzstan detained Movlaev, who was wanted in Russia on charges of financing extremism. A court in Bishkek sentenced him to six months in a penal colony and subsequent deportation from the country. On November 20, 2023, Movlaev was released and left Kyrgyzstan on his own to avoid being sent back home.

In May 2025, Movlaev was detained in Kazakhstan and placed under extradition arrest. On January 30 of this year, the Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan decided to extradite him to the Russian authorities.

In February of this year, the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan suspended the execution of the decision to extradite Movlaev until his asylum application is finally considered. On September 10, it became known that the cassation court in Kazakhstan found no violations in the refusal to grant Movlaev asylum. After that, Movlaev, who was held in a Kazakh pre-trial detention center, attempted suicide.
