The court fined the wastewater treatment facilities of Derbent for polluting the Caspian Sea.
The Arbitration Court of Dagestan fully satisfied the claims of Rosprirodnadzor, ruling to recover 43 million rubles from the Municipal Unitary Enterprise "Derbent Wastewater Treatment Facilities" as compensation for the damage caused to the Caspian Sea by the discharge of untreated wastewater.
The evidence for the claim included the results of on-site inspections and water samples taken near boarding school No. 2 on Tagiev Street in Derbent, conducted in July 2024.
The laboratory analysis of the chemical composition revealed critical exceedances of the maximum allowable concentrations of harmful substances in the wastewater. The norm for anionic surfactants was exceeded by 19-23 times, and biochemical oxygen demand exceeded the norm by 19 times, indicating high organic pollution, reports RIA "Dagestan".
The Municipal Unitary Enterprise "Derbent Wastewater Treatment Facilities" was registered in 2022 in Derbent. The authorized capital of the company is 100 thousand rubles. The main activity is the collection and treatment of wastewater. The acting director is Khanum Gadzhieva. The financial indicators of the enterprise for recent years have not been published, reported "Kommersant".
The court recognized the agency's evidence as conclusive and fully satisfied the financial claims against the municipal enterprise. 43 million rubles were recovered from the Municipal Unitary Enterprise "Derbent Wastewater Treatment Facilities" as compensation for the damage. The enterprise will also pay 655 thousand rubles in state duty.
"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in the spring of 2021, an inspection was initiated regarding reports of pollution of the Caspian Sea in Derbent by wastewater. Residents of Derbent complained on social media about the discharge of dirty wastewater into the Caspian Sea. The city administration responded to the complaints, stating that the source of pollution was a local wine and cognac factory.
