A resident of Sochi was convicted for public calls for extremism.

The appellate court refused to mitigate the punishment of a resident of Sochi, whose publications contained calls for violence against Russian people.

The Central District Court of Sochi sentenced Andrey Mironov to one year in a settlement colony, finding him guilty of public calls for extremist activities using the internet.

According to the court, in October 2023, the young man posted a text comment in a messenger chat calling for violence against Russian people. He was aware that this comment would become accessible to an unlimited number of people, the press service of the Krasnodar Krai courts reported today on their Telegram channel.

During the court session, the defendant fully admitted his guilt and expressed remorse for his actions. Mironov explained that when posting the comment, he did not realize all the consequences due to his young age. He also mentioned that he faced public condemnation from his acquaintances and neighbors. All of this affected his worldview.

The Central District Court of Sochi found Andrey Mironov guilty of public calls for extremist activities and sentenced him to one year of imprisonment. He will serve his sentence in a settlement colony. Additionally, he is deprived of the right to engage in activities related to website administration for two years.

"The sentence was appealed, but the judicial panel for criminal cases of the Krasnodar Krai Court, having reviewed the case materials in an appellate manner, found no grounds for changing it. The sentence has entered into legal force," the press service stated.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that a resident of Sochi received two years in a settlement colony for extremist publications on social media.
