The unblocking of communications between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the search for missing persons were discussed on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, stated that an agreement has been reached on cooperation with Azerbaijan regarding the fate of the missing persons. The foreign ministers of both countries discussed the unblocking of communications and trade.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the newly established "All-Armenian Association of Relatives of Missing Persons" held a press conference in Yerevan. Its representatives expressed hope that search and identification processes for discovering those missing during the Karabakh conflict, both soldiers and civilians, would resume between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

In the relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the issues concerning the fate of several thousand missing persons require resolution, and regarding this, an agreement on cooperation with Azerbaijan has been reached, said the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, in his speech at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly today.

"Armenia is ready to continue and deepen cooperation with Azerbaijan on demining issues. And, of course, the Republic of Armenia expects the return of Armenians who found themselves imprisoned in Azerbaijan as a result of the conflict. Along with the fact that these issues remain unresolved, another reason fueling pessimists is the occasional use of confrontational rhetoric in certain circles of Armenia and Azerbaijan, and sometimes at the official level. I believe that we, referring to Armenia and Azerbaijan, have achieved more than sufficient results that should be more valuable to us than the use of confrontational rhetoric—whether it be about history, historical and cultural monuments, or anything else," News.Am quotes him.

On September 24, 2026, in New York, within the framework of the UN General Assembly, a meeting took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov. This was reported by the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Both ministers emphasized the importance of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, touching on the progress recorded after the agreements of the Washington Peace Summit of 2025. Special attention was given to the unblocking of economic and transport infrastructure between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

In this context, trade and transit interaction between Armenia and Azerbaijan was noted as a practical example of the benefits of peace.

A similar press release was also published by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It particularly noted that trade and transit links between Azerbaijan and Armenia were regarded as practical examples of the benefits of peace.

"The ministers exchanged views on the possibilities of promoting a positive agenda on various multilateral platforms. The parties agreed to continue direct dialogue," the message stated.

It should be noted that on September 24, the Minister of Economy of Armenia, Gevork Papoyan, reported that aluminum foil was exported from Armenia to Azerbaijan, clarifying the volume of the export.
