Supporters of Georgia's Eurointegration came to the parliament on the 658th day of continuous protests with the unchanged demand for the release of prisoners of conscience. The opposition announced a large march on September 27 in connection with the Day of Protection of Sukhumi.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on September 15, the 657th day of protests, the fifth president of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, recorded a video address in support of the arrested opposition figure Elene Khoshtaria, calling her "an example for all".
Supporters of Georgia's Eurointegration with national flags and EU flags gathered today near the parliament building and the Tbilisi city council on the 658th day demanding the release of political prisoners and the repeal of repressive laws, reports Publika.
Demonstrators in Tbilisi held placards saying "Russia is the enemy", "Freedom for political prisoners", "No to the Russian dream", "Those who do not build schools build prisons", "Liluashvili 13 years, think koц", according to photos published by photographer MO SE on Facebook*.
The protest on the 658th day also took place near the building of the Constitutional Court of Georgia in Batumi. Its participants held placards: "Antsukhelidze is immortal", "Freedom for political prisoners" and "Russia is an occupier", reports the publication Batumelebi.
Today, the chairman of the opposition party "United National Movement", Levan Khabeishvili, sentenced to two and a half years in prison for sabotage, called on his colleagues to unite in a letter from prison. Khabeishvili pointed out the mistakes of the opposition and emphasized that government opponents have not dared to hold any major rally, reported the TV company Pirveli.
In mid-September 2025, one of the leaders of the "United National Movement", Levan Khabeishvili, was detained under the bribery article, the reason being a reward he promised to law enforcement officers who refused to follow government orders. Khabeishvili was placed under arrest, and in addition to the bribery charge, he was accused of calls to overthrow the government. In May 2026, the Tbilisi City Court sentenced him to two and a half years in prison for sabotage.
"Brothers, it’s all due to fear - inaction, what is happening now. Gather your courage, otherwise you will spend years trying to understand what Ivanishvili wants, who he will catch and who he will promote. Sorry, but this is complete nonsense and just chatter that goes on television every day. If it weren't for the producers of the TV channels, you would have completely disappeared from the political field and taken the form of "keyboard lions"," the politician wrote in his letter.
Giga Lemondzhava, a member of the coalition "For Change", stated that at this stage, the responsibility of the pro-Western political class is to organize a large street protest, the plan for which, according to the politician, exists in the coalition.
"There are not only ideas regarding the organization of a large protest, but also very concrete plans and very concrete steps. September 27 is declared a large march in connection with the Day of Protection of Sukhumi. This will not be the only protest, the scale will grow, the protest will occur in waves. This is how it is intended. Our main task is to bring as many people as possible to the streets and show them that the regime has never faced such difficulties as it does now," said Giga Lemondzhava.
Protesters in Georgia have been demanding new parliamentary elections and the release of political prisoners since November 28, 2024. Law enforcement has conducted harsh crackdowns on protests, using tear gas and water cannons, and detaining protesters. During the protests, thousands of people have faced administrative prosecution.
