Volunteers reported new contaminations in the area of the port of Taman
In the area from the port of Taman and beyond Cape Zhelezny Rog, a section of the shoreline is contaminated with a fine fraction of an unknown oil product. Volunteers have begun to eliminate the pollution.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the village of Volna and Cape Zhelezny Rog, which volunteers reported as being cleaned of fuel oil and palm oil, are again under threat due to a fuel leak from a tanker located 10.5 kilometers from the shore.
In Taman, ten and a half kilometers south of Cape Zhelezny Rog, a tanker has been leaking fuel into the Black Sea since May. It was damaged during a drone attack. Since then, it has been leaking. This vessel is Aqua Live, built in 2004. Its length is 248 meters, width is 43 meters, carrying capacity is 105 thousand tons, and it sails under the flag of Cameroon, reported the volunteer headquarters "Dolphins".
The discovery of pollution on the shore of the Black Sea in the area from the port of Taman and beyond Cape Zhelezny Rog was reported on September 14 by the "Dolphins" center on their Telegram channel.
According to the headquarters, a section of the shoreline about four kilometers long is contaminated, with a strip width of up to twenty centimeters. Externally, this is a fine fraction of an unknown oil product. The exact composition will be determined by specialists.
Volunteers reported that it is still unclear where the pollution came from. "The sea is stormy, the wind is southwest, but the cause can only be named after verification," they wrote, noting that the "Dolphins" headquarters and Cossacks have begun to eliminate the pollution, monitor the situation, and await further developments.
On December 15, 2024, two tankers carrying fuel oil sank in the Kerch Strait. As a result, a crew member of one of the tankers died. Additionally, there was a spill of oil products, leading to catastrophic environmental consequences, according to a report from "Caucasian Knot" "Fuel oil spill in the Kerch Strait".
Materials on the consequences of the fuel oil spill have been collected by "Caucasian Knot" on the page "Ecological disaster in Kuban".
