A resident of Novorossiysk received a sentence for a comment about the death of a Z-blogger
The military court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Alexander Borovkov from Novorossiysk to a term in a penal colony, finding justification for terrorism in his comment about the case of Daria Trepova.
Alexander Borovkov is 30 years old. The article on public justification of terrorism online (part 2 of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) provides for a sentence of five to seven years in prison.
Courts in southern Russia regularly sentence local residents to real terms in a penal colony for publications on social networks under the article on justification of terrorism via the internet. It is impossible to establish the real number of such sentences, as not all cases of justification of terrorism make it into public court registries.
The comment that became the basis for prosecution was left by the man in one of the public channels of the messenger on January 20, 2024. The post that Borovkov commented on concerned the trial of St. Petersburg resident Daria Trepova, who was convicted in the case of the explosion at a cafe on April 2, 2023. As a result of this explosion, Z-blogger Vladlen Tatarsky died.
According to the verdict, Borovkov “posted a text message publicly justifying terrorism,” the press service of the Southern District Military Court reported today. The prosecutor's office of the Krasnodar region, in turn, indicated that the 30-year-old resident of Novorossiysk “gave a positive assessment of the actions of the citizen convicted of committing a terrorist act.”
The court sentenced Alexander Borovkov to five years in a general regime colony. He is also deprived of the right to administer websites, channels, and other internet resources for two years after his release.
“In addition, the court confiscated and transferred to state ownership funds equivalent to the market value of the mobile phone used to commit the crime,” the prosecutor's office added.
Neither the court nor the prosecutor's office specified whether Borovkov agreed with the charges. The “Caucasian Knot” currently has no comments from Borovkov or his lawyer regarding plans to appeal the verdict.
Alexander Borovkov was born in June 1996 in Krasnodar. His name was added to the list of terrorists and extremists by Rosfinmonitoring with a note of involvement in terrorism on May 13, 2026, according to a record from a Telegram bot tracking updates to the list.
"Caucasian Knot" reported that in August 2023, security forces compiled a protocol on discrediting Russian servicemen against Novorossiysk resident Alexander Borovkov.
For comments about the death of Tatarsky and the criminal prosecution of Daria Trepova, the court in August 2025 sentenced 78-year-old pensioner Larisa Kuznetsova from the Stavropol region to a fine of 320,000 rubles.
