A resident of Kabardino-Balkaria has been convicted of financing extremists.

The court sentenced a resident of the Prokhladnensky district to three years of conditional imprisonment for transferring money to an extremist organization.

According to the court and investigation, in August 2021, the woman transferred funds to the organization. Investigators claim that she was aware that her activities on the territory of Russia were prohibited by the court and recognized as extremist.

The Prokhladnensky District Court issued a guilty verdict against her. The woman was found guilty of committing a crime under part 1 of article 282.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (financing extremist activities), the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kabardino-Balkaria reported today on its page on "VKontakte".

The article provides for a maximum punishment of three to eight years of imprisonment. However, the court issued a more lenient sentence, assigning her a punishment of three years of conditional imprisonment.

"The illegal activities of the defendant were stopped by employees of the Center for Countering Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic and the FSB of Russia for the KBR," the agency's message states.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the region did not specify in the message the amount of the transfer and to which organization the funds were transferred. The agency also did not name the convicted person's name; according to the criminal case registry on the Prokhladnensky District Court's website, the last case under the article on financing extremist activities, for which a guilty verdict was issued, was considered against Irina Pokhorenko. The case was submitted to the court on June 2, and the verdict was issued on July 20.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that the court sentenced a resident of Nalchik to three years of conditional imprisonment for transferring money to an extremist organization. In April, employees of the Center for Countering Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kabardino-Balkaria reported the detention of a 31-year-old local resident in a case of financing an extremist organization.
