"Morspasluzhba" increased the amount of the claim for the tanker crashes near the Kerch Strait
The Arbitration Court of the Krasnodar Territory granted the request of the "Morspasluzhba" to clarify the claims in the case of compensation for the consequences of the tanker crashes in the Kerch Strait, the amount of the claim has increased to 1.2 billion rubles.
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the Arbitration Court of the Krasnodar Territory did not allow the owner of the tanker "Volgoneft-212", which crashed in the Kerch Strait in December 2024, to join the fund for limiting liability created by insurance companies. Earlier, the court did not support the acting captain of the seaport of Caucasus, Evgeny Skorchenko, who challenged the conclusions of Rostransnadzor regarding his involvement in the tanker crashes.
In the spring of 2025, hearings began on the claim of "Morspasluzhba" against "Kama Shipping" - the owner of the sunken tanker "Volgoneft-212", "Volgatransneft" was involved as a co-defendant. "Morspasluzhba" is demanding reimbursement of expenses incurred during the cleanup of the oil product spill. Representatives of "Volgatransneft" and "Kama Shipping" submitted a request to create limited liability funds totaling 1 billion rubles, from which it is planned to pay damages that may be claimed for the oil spill near Anapa. On February 13, 2025, the same court imposed a fine of 630 thousand rubles in total for violating technical parameters on the owners of the sunken tankers.
"Morspasluzhba" is seeking compensation through the court for the work done to eliminate the consequences of the tanker crashes. The defendants in the claim are the companies "Kamatransoil" (owner of "Volgoneft-212"), "Kama Shipping" (charterer of "Volgoneft-212") and "Volgatransneft" (owner of "Volgoneft-239"), as well as two insurance companies: VSK and "Absolut Insurance". The amount of the claims in the previously submitted application was 485.1 million rubles, TASS reports today.
The increase in the amount is related to new circumstances of the case: earlier, the Arbitration Court of the North Caucasus District annulled the decision to deny the insurers of the tankers the creation of limited liability funds for damage from oil pollution. During the re-examination of the claim of "Morspasluzhba", the limited liability fund of the insurers was recreated - already for 1 billion rubles, RBC reports.
A representative of the plaintiff in court reported that the initial amount included the expenses of Morspasluzhba from December 25, 2024, to the end of April 2025. In April 2026, the case was sent for reconsideration, after which the service recalculated the amount until December 31, 2025. Now the amount of the claim in the case of the fuel oil spill has increased almost threefold to 1.2 billion rubles, writes "Kommersant".
It should be noted that in August 2025, the Arbitration Court of the Krasnodar Territory granted the claim of Rosprirodnadzor against the owner and charterer of one of the tankers that crashed in the Kerch Strait, "Volgoneft-212", ordering LLC "Kamatransoil" and LLC "Kama Shipping" to pay more than 49 billion 460 million rubles for damage to the Black Sea. All bank accounts of these companies were frozen. The owner of the sunken tanker "Volgoneft-212" in the Kerch Strait could not challenge the decision to recover over 49 billion rubles for the damage caused to the Black Sea. The owner of the tanker "Volgoneft-239" filed a complaint in the Arbitration Court of the North Caucasus District against the court's decision to recover 35.48 billion rubles in damages to the Black Sea from the company. The Arbitration Court of the North Caucasus District upheld the court's decisions to recover more than 84.9 billion rubles from the owners of the tankers that crashed near Anapa for damage to the sea's waters.
Fuel oil was found on all beaches of Anapa, along the coast in the Temryuk district (from the village of Veselovka to the stanitsa of Blagoveshchensk) and on the coast of the Azov Sea in the Slavyansky district of Kuban, according to the report of the "Caucasian Knot" "The scale of pollution in southern Russia with fuel oil".
