The private kindergarten "Academy Kids" in Buynaksk suspended its operations after Rospotrebnadzor identified violations of hygiene and sanitary rules in the organization of food, which the agency deemed a threat to children's health. The issue of safety for kindergarteners in Dagestan has been relevant for a long time.

According to the Rospotrebnadzor office in Dagestan, the staff of the kindergarten "Academy Kids" in Buynaksk did not have medical books, mandatory production control was not conducted, and daily examinations of employees for infectious diseases were not performed. Products were accepted without accompanying documents and certificates of compliance, and the continuity of technological processes for food preparation was also violated.

One of the groups was placed in the basement. The kindergarten did not have a medical isolation room for sick children and air disinfectors in the playrooms, and there were not enough hooks for towels in the washrooms. Sleeping areas were equipped with three-tier transformable beds without independent access for children, the agency's press service reported today.

Administrative cases have been initiated against the kindergarten administration for violations of hygiene and sanitary rules in the organization of food and education for children. The kindergarten's operations have been suspended, and the inspection materials have been sent to court for a decision on halting its operations, the statement said.

Parents periodically complain about the issue of children's safety in kindergartens in Dagestan

Issues with violations and sanitary conditions in kindergartens in Dagestan have repeatedly been the subject of complaints from parents. For instance, after a traumatic finger amputation of a child in one of the kindergartens in Makhachkala in May, the city education department announced unscheduled inspections of all preschool institutions in the city. The head of the committee on education and science of the Dagestan parliament Elena Pavlyuchenko called the incident "not the first case of injuries among children in kindergartens" and urged for inspections of preschool institutions throughout the republic.

In October 2020, in Makhachkala, after an outbreak of acute intestinal infection, the number of sick children attending educational institutions reached 75. Pathogens of dysentery and rotavirus were found in samples taken from 28 sick children, after which all kindergartens in the city were temporarily closed for disinfection.

The shortage of places in kindergartens forces some parents to put up with problems, residents of Makhachkala reported at that time. "The kindergarten is good, but overcrowded. We barely waited our turn. Most parents are in the same situation, so many do not complain about sanitary conditions and food when there are problems," said a Makhachkala resident Napisat to the correspondent of "Caucasian Knot".

Parents in Derbent also complained about poor sanitary conditions in kindergartens. In January 2017, participants of a rally at the city administration reported poor nutrition, dampness, and cold in the premises. "But why do children in kindergartens sleep two on one bed? <...> The kindergarten building is damp everywhere, it's cold. Parents themselves have to buy heating devices," said the mother of three children Elma Gadzhieva to the correspondent of "Caucasian Knot".
