As reported by "Caucasian Knot", in October 2025, the Minister of Economy of Georgia and the founder of the Eagle Hills company from the UAE signed an investment agreement for $6.6 billion. The agreement implies the creation of a joint company for construction, including in Tbilisi on an area of 600 hectares of residential and commercial complexes with a total area of over one million square meters. The authorities' plans to build an "Arab town" on the territory of the Krtsanisi forest park have raised concerns among representatives and supporters of the opposition.
A protest took place in the Krtsanisi forest park, where participants demanded to stop the construction of the so-called "Arab town". Activists, representatives of opposition parties, and the fifth president of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili participated in the action, as reported today by "Interpressnews".
The gathered demanded to cancel the contract signed with Eagle Hills, which provides for the construction of the "Arab town" on the territory of the Krtsanisi forest park, the agency writes.
"This is the lungs of Tbilisi, and if those buildings that we see all over the city and on this road when we come here are built here, it means that these lungs will be closed, which will cause great harm to the city. We see that across the country, no one pays any attention to how to preserve nature," said Salome Zourabichvili at the rally.
Nothing should be built here
She emphasized that "there are no transparent answers to questions about who, what, and how is being built." "No one knows under what contract, with what money, who is actually the investor, who is making money here, and who will live here. All of this is completely unclear. It is already unacceptable, whoever it may be - Georgian, Arab, or Russian, nothing should be built here," Zourabichvili's words are quoted in the publication.
The rally took place today, with several dozen people participating. The protesters held placards reading "Georgian land belongs to the people" and demanded to terminate the agreement with the developer, reports "News of Georgia".
Recall that in September 2019, more than 200 people held a rally against the felling of trees in Digomi Park in Tbilisi. They expressed concern that a restaurant was planned to be built there, which would negatively affect the state of the forest.
In November 2022, the Tbilisi City Hall reported that the municipality has returned plots of recreational area in Digomi forest park, which had been sold to developers over the years.
